I would look for context clues in other items in the inventory.? Are there any other items in the inventory that would lead you to believe this person worked in or around docks or shallow draft river boats?? The reason I ask is that there are fenders for shallow draft boats called "toons".? These are attacked from the rail down the side of craft to the water line to protect the hull of the boat from striking the a pier when docking.?
