2 September - In 1751 the Gregorian calendar was adopted in Britain,
resulting in the loss of 11 days, compared to the old Julian calendar.

In the American colonies we switched to the Gregorian calendar on Sept 2,
1752, hence the next day was September 14, 1752, 12 days having been
removed.
