***I have interlineated some responses to your questions:

I have a will written 12 Sept. 1786, probated 1 Jan. 1787, Charlotte
CO., VA.
There is a marginal notation as follows:

"At a court held for Charlotte County the 6th day of November 1826 on
the
motion of James Lawson who makes oath according to law, Certificate is
granted him for obtaining letters of administration on the estate of
the
said George Lawson, dcd (can't read: looks like "de
bornision"....with the will annexed upon entering into bond with
Security whereupon he with (five names) his securities entered into
and acknowledged their bond according to law for that purpose.

*** The issue of "letters of administration de bonis non with the will
annexed" means that Lawson died with a will, it was let to probate in
1787, the will was executed and "closed". Then, in 1826, and for some
reason (either because there was a bequest that could not be satisfied
or come to maturity till those years later OR because there were
"after-discovered" assets), the court found it necessary to reopen the
estate. The court did so and named this new man as administrator. In
addition, that court ordered the new administration to be done in
accordance with the terms and intention of the original will to the
extent possible. Whether or not such are yet extant, there once were
papers as to the original proceeding and also further entries that
related to this subsequent administration. You should search the
courts' order and minutes and any papers that remain in that clerk's
office that related to the matter.  This is an interesting matter;
keep us posted on any further records you locate. Paul
