If you have a copy of the original document you've most likely already  
tried to find another word that you are certain contains a 'g' for  
comparison.  If it is a 'g' it could also be pronounced as in the word  
'cargo'. If there are a number of odd spellings present the word might  
have been meant as 'keg'.

Then again, it could be cage as we know it. I guess some animals would  
need one for transportation to market, etc.

Have you tried one of the online deciphering sites?
