Thomas Taylor's will 1686/7 named "godsons John Taverner Jun^r &
Samford Jones" along with "Isaac Webb son to John Webb" and "my
friends Mr Edward Jones Mr. Elisha [undoubtedly should be Mrs Alicia]
Jones Mr. Thomas Baylis Mrs Catherine Baylis Mr. John Webb & Mr Isaac
Webb", with James Samford & William Colston as executors. William
Montgomery Sweeny, _Wills of Rappahannock County, Virginia, 1656-1692_
(Lynchburg, VA: J.P. Bell, 1947)

These families are all intertwined. Mary SAMFORD m. John WEBB and had
a son Isaac b. 18 Dec 1681; Alicia SAMFORD m. Edward JONES and had a
son Samford b. 13 April 1684; Catherine SAMFORD m. Thomas BAYLIS; the
girls were daughters of James SAMFORD, the executor. John and
Elizabeth -- TAVERNER had a son John Jr. born 7 March 1682/3.

As people usually named relatives as their children's godparents, it
seems quite likely that Thomas Taylor was somehow related to the
Samfords and Taverners (or their wives). Possibly James Samford's wife
Mary was a Taylor? Or maybe Elizabeth --- Taverner was a Taylor? Or
both?

Can anyone shed any further light on Thomas TAYLOR and his relatives?

Capt Philip TAYLOR (d. before 1649) of Accomac, MD, and his wife Jane
-- had a son Thomas, who was living in MD in 1663. Could he have
crossed the Potomac and settled in Old Rappahannock Co, VA?
