Suzanne P. Derieux and Wesley E. Pippenger have completed another volume of
transcripts of marriage consents, affidavits, minister returns and marriage
licenses, for Essex County; now for the period 1873-1883. This book covers
759 marriages that are recorded in this variety of source materials found at
the county courthouse in Tappahannock. Most records provide the date of
marriage, place of marriage, names of bride and groom, age of bride and
groom, status of bride and groom (whether single or divorced), birthplace,
residence, names of parents, occupation of groom, and the name of the
minister officiating the marriage. Copies may be ordered from Mr.
Pippenger, for $40 postpaid; from P.O. Box 309, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
