Page 281, 29th of October 1782 of County Orders. 
Franky Davis an infant by John Davis, her next friend, against James Donoho.  Suit is dismissed by plt brought her next friend aforesaid failed to proceed and it is ordered by the court that the defendant recover against said John Davis his costs by him about his defense in the matter expended.

What might next friend indicate?

In the will of Obadiah Hendrix dated 26 April 1786 and proved 28 April 1788.
Witnesses were Waddy Thompson. Jesse Davis (X), Fanny Davis (X), Hannah Davis (X), James Phillips.

Could anybody enlighten me about the Davis(es) of Cumberland County?  I am searching for the parents of Jesse Davis.  He named a daughter Hannah.   Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated
