The next program in the Virginia Heritage Resource Center's Mining the
Treasure House lecture series will take place at noon on Tuesday, 20
July, 2004 in the conference rooms adjacent to the lobby in the Library
of Virginia at 800 East Broad Street in downtown Richmond. As work
begins to repair and extend the Virginia Capitol, Jim Wootton, the
executive director of the Capitol Square Preservation Council, will
explore the Capitol's 200-year history of construction, renovation and
expansion. From the alterations made to Jefferson's design in the 1780s
to the addition of the current legislative chambers in the early 1900s,
the Capitol has repeatedly been adapted to enable it to continue
functioning as the seat of Virginia government.
There is free underground parking for Library patrons. For more
information on this and other progams and services of the Library of
Virginia please visit the Library's web site at http://lva.lib.va.us
