I spent years assuming my Marene Chaney ancestor was the son of a
granddaughter of Marene Duvall who married a Chaney. Such a Marene Chaney
actualy existed, but I never could make the connection. Later I found out
that my Marene Chaney was just named Marene as a tribute to Marene Duvall.
Interesting, too, that you are spelling it Mareen, because that is the way
it ended up in my family.

Yes! I knew there was another "berry" name
in the same period but couldn't think of it.

The Wikipedia search for Greenberrys was a
good idea. Maybe we should look for Little-
berrys too. The prominent local man naming
pattern has caused me no end of frustration
in looking for collateral lines that weren't
there -- when you have people named things
like Greenberry and Mareen (and HOW did he
get THAT name; I've always wondered, because I have family in that area too)
the
thought comes early, but these "John Nelsons" (and I've got a "Robert Clark"
in a
family without Clarks) can make you crazy.

Then, on both sides of my husband's family,
children were named for Sir Walter Scott
characters. . .
