Hi to the List

Periodically, I return to my brick wall in Buckingham;
each time, I accumulate more data, but never anything
that fits. So..
list mates, I need some help/suggestions/ideas. Yes,
I know it is a burned county and I am fortunate to
have the Land Tax Books and Implied Deeds as a
resource!

FACTS:
1. Federal Census geographical determinations
Buckingham County, Virginia (as determined from review
of census indexing & instructions on using each
census). Please note the designation "township" is
not mine, but the word used by the person/company
responsible for this indexing/explanation. My
preference would be to use the word "location."

1820

(three townships)
Bent Creek
Maysville
New Canton

1830
(Not stated in indexing)

1840
Northern District
Southern District

1850
District One
District Two

1860
(two townships)
District One
District Two

1870
(six townships)
Curdsville
Francisco
James River
Marshall
Maysville
Slate River

1880
(4 townships +one not stated)
Curdsville
Francisco
James River
Marshall

not stated which included
District 0 Clay Township, incl. villages of Genoa
and Martin
 District 37 Maysville (Mag. Dist.)
District 38 Slate River (Mag. Dist.)

1900
(six townships)
Curdsville
Francisco
James River
Marshall
Maysville
Slate River

QUESTIONS:

1. 1840 vs 1850 locations - how may a determination
be made as to which district is along the same lines
as the other? In other words, was district one in
1840 the same as Northern or was it Southern? Using
the family names as a determining factor does not
work; I have wrestled with this for umpteen years!

2. Likely, the 1850 and 1860 division lines are the
same, but by 1870 those two locations are then
increased to six...this obviously is great as it gets
them down to a smaller location, but again, how can we
determine where those six "fit" into the previous two?

3. Does anyone know of Buckingham maps that show land
ownership or even property owner's names, prior to the
fire in 1869?

Thanks for your comments

Alice in Fluvanna
