Web site to check : Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System:
www.itd.nps.gov/cwss

A useful site, but not always accurate. Walter Frank Chapman, for example, served in the 9th VA Cavalry (the "Caroline Dragoons" from Caroline Co.), but he is not listed on the site.

As to genealogical information, I did not say it isn't useful, but not relevant for a CW search. There are many similar names on the muster roles, and men who served (often in some irregular capacity) but are not listed.
