Finding Your Revolutionary War Ancestor

Presented by Don Wilson

RELIC's Don Wilson will demonstrate, in a case-study approach, how to
find an ancestor with potential to have served as a Revolutionary
patriot, then determine if someone with that name is credited with
service, and prove that they are the same person. The techniques can be
used in tracing ancestors from any place, connected to any historical
event. The hour-long program starts at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 9,
and will be repeated at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28 at Bull Run Regional
Library.

To register for this free program email [log in to unmask], or call RELIC
at (703) 792-4540 or TTY: (703) 792-4524.

Thursday, May 7, 11 a.m.

"Placing Out" and the Orphan Trains

Presented by Larry LeDoux

Genealogist Larry LeDoux will present an overview of an
ignored part of U.S. history: the movement that transported and "placed
out" more than 200,000 destitute children from New York and other cities
to foster homes throughout the country, mainly to Midwest farms and
towns, during the period 1854 to 1929.

The program will be presented at Bull Run Regional Library on Thursday,
May 7, at 11 a.m. To register for this free program email
[log in to unmask], or call RELIC at (703) 792-4540 or TTY: (703)
792-4524.

Tuesday, May 26, 7 p.m.

Using Associates and Collaterals to

Extend Ancestral Lines

Presented by Victor Dunn, CG

Victor Dunn, CG, will present a case study of records of
associates and "collaterals" (in-laws, cousins and other near-relatives)
to illustrate the use of information to determine migration and
establish a family unit. The lecture focuses on the methodology used in
"Reconstructing Parents from Indirect Evidence: Robert Dunn of Frederick
County, Virginia," which was published in the September 2006 issue of
National Genealogical Society Quarterly. Potential records sources
naming associates and collaterals are also discussed.

The program starts at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, at Bull Run
Regional Library. To register for this free program email
[log in to unmask], or call RELIC at (703) 792-4540 or TTY: (703)
792-4524.
