Now this might be a possibility. My thinking is that "a Turk" might have
referred to a political group (such as the Whigs) or some local gang of
vigilantes or bandits. Or it might be a term unsed to describe a local
militia unit. It may also have been a derogatory term used locally to
describe a general group of people.
