Dear Ms. McKinney,
Let me add my two centrs to this imbroglio. I am a 81 year old reired
ophthalmologist with a deep abiding interest in history (especially Virginia) and
genealogy. I have known Paul Drake for a number of years and have attended
his ledftures and purchaed a number of his books.
He has always responded to questions and is a true font of knowledge
about writing and history/genealogy and associated disciplines.
Now to the purpose of this email. I too received the email to which you
took Paul to task. A careful search by me of the addresses of the individuals
to whom this was addressed did NOT yield your email address. Therefore I think
that you should consider that someone usurped this email and forwarded it to
you and Paul has been guilty of nothing more than having an email that was NOT
addressed to you being pirated by someone who purposefully wanted to shock
you, or SOMETHING. I suggest that you accept Paul's explanation.
For the record, I look forward to Paul's "naughty" emails- I am sure that
he will be more
careful and winnow out any uestionable recipients. I am guilty of forwarding
some to friends (that I know will not be upset and hope that it gives them a
smile- all too rare in this current climate). When I DO send these on, I
obliterate Paul's name so that they are sent under my name. Perhaps, what happened
in your case is that your sender did not obliterate Paul's name. I will not
spend more of my time on earth and serve notice that this hopefully will lay this
matter to rest.
FYI, I attended Princeton and graduated Harvard Medical School and also
obtained an MS from Univ. of Pa. I have been married to the same wonderful lady
for 56 years.Let's now lay this tempest in a teapot to rest because I need
Paul's assistance in running down certain medical books that were used in
medical practice in the mid 18th century for my second historical/genealogical
book.With best regards, Bill McCarty
