the professional historians from the Sargeant Memorial Room @ Norfolk
Main Library!

Beginning Genealogy
Norfolk Main Library Conference Room
Saturday, October 10 @ 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 14 @ 10:00 a.m.
Saturday, December 12 @ 2:00 p.m.

This two hour program, presented by Robert Hitchings, Sargeant Memorial
Room Archivist & Historian, will help new genealogists begin their
search. Searching wills, deeds, marriage and other court records will be
covered as well as other basic information resources.  The program will
conclude with a tour of the Sargeant Memorial Room and time for
questions and answers. (Adults)

How to Use On-line Genealogy Databases

Saturday, November 7 @ 2:00 p.m.

Developments in digitalization and delivery of information in electronic
formats has brought a new vigor to genealogical research and has made it
easier to find  information via the Web. Troy Valos, SMR Historian and
co-editor of the Sargeant's Chronicles, will teach participants all the
tips and tricks in using the two major genealogy databases, Ancestry.com
and Heritage Quest. (Adults)

Researching Your Norfolk Property
Norfolk Main Library - Sargeant Memorial Room
Saturday, December 5 @ 2:00 p.m.

Learn step by step how to research the history of your Norfolk
residential or commercial property. Examples from maps, plats,
photographs, title abstracts, books on architecture & house plans, city
directories & land books will be used to assist the property owner. This
class will is presented by Bill Inge, architectural historian and staff
member of SMR. (Adults)
