Dear Library and List,
Today at the LDS Family History Center, Santa Monica, I stumbled
across a great find: a book listing patriots who made Revolutionary
Public Claims for non-military service in the Revolutionary War. Lo
and behold, my grX4 grandfather is listed! When Dr. Earl Swem was
assistant librarian at the Virginia State Library, he assembled and made
available to researchers these Public Claims as well as Personal and
Land Tax Books, beginning 1782, for every county in Virginia.

The book further states these Indexes of Revolutionary Public Claims
are valuable because they are available in no other place than the
manuscripts in the archives of the Virginia State Library. I believe
Dr. Swem died around 1965. Would these holdings now be in the
Library of Virginia? I'd sure like to order a copy of the original
document but find no website information whatsoever.
Thank you, anyone with an answer!
