Brent,

The person writing the article in the New York Times does not understand
the DNA testing process.

In order to get medical information from your DNA you must have the full
sequence test. The majority of people have only part of their DNA
Chromosomes tested and those parts do not give medical information.

I have had my Mitochondrial and Autosomal DNA tested. I am in the
process of working on other peoples' family trees to see if I can find
the names of their ancestors that is also my ancestors. Since I enjoy
doing genealogy, I am having a lot of fun.

Louise

The New York Times Magazine for Sunday, 26 February 2012, had a brief
interesting discussion of some ethical concerns that have been raised
about making available family DNA testing results. You can find this at
http://www.nytimes.com/pages/magazine/index.html by scrolling down the
center column until you find The Ethicist: Sizing Up the Family Gene
Pool.
