As an amateur within this group, I'll take my stab at this and the experts can clean up my mess :-)

I believe the law entitled the widow to 1/3 of all real and personal property. In this will, it appears she is only being given the "use of" any tract of land and not ownership.

She's not even given ownership of the slaves but only the "use of."
