I am interested in the ancestors of George Gaines b. 1675 d. 1725 m. Elnor (several spellings out there) b. 1675. Children (that I know of) were Margaret, m. John Pryor; and Bernard. All of the above derived from other arm-chair genealogists.

It's been stated, by many, that George Gaines' father and mother were Bernard Gaines, b. 1850 d. 1747 (son of Daniel Gaines and Margaret Bernard) and Martha Taylor, b. 1646 (father George Taylor Sr b. 1815). If true, these dates and relationships would align with the birth of Margaret Gaines (dau. of George and Elnor) c. 1706 - or at least Margaret's parents would have been old enough.

However, according to the research of Margaret Amundson, which I found to be logical and credible, the issue of Daniel Gaines and Margaret Bernard (last name also in dispute) could not have occurred prior to 1663, about the time of their marriage (her second). Although, according to Amundson, this union produced Mary, Margaret and Bernard, none of them could have been born prior to 1663, which would make said Bernard Gaines about 12 years older than his son, George (listed above).

Further, George Taylor Jr’s (d. 1706) Will names his daughter, Martha Gaines and her son George Gaines, youngest son of Martha; and Daniel Gaines eldest son of Bernard Gaines and said Martha, his wife. Although George Taylor Sr produced a daughter, Martha Taylor b. 1646, there is no evidence I see that she married a Bernard Gaines. To the contrary, the evidence points to Martha Taylor dau. of George Taylor, Jr. In which case, this Martha Taylor b. 1670 (daughter of Geo Taylor Jr) would be too young to produce a child in 1675, the presumed date of her son’s (George Gaines) birth in 1675.

So, I'm looking for a different Bernard Gaines - father of George Gaines, who married Elnor, who bore a child Margaret, who married John Pryor - right?
