I have a statement, "On 26 May1678, Samuel Baley (his name culd be
spelled as Bayly, Baly or even Bayliss) brought suit against Captain David Fox,
Jr. inasmuch as he had married the administrix of Nathaniel Richardson namely
Alice Russell"/
I do not know where I got this imromation about Basyley suing Fox and
have gone to Essex Co.Clerk's Office for original reference. As we know, Old
Rappahannock County was divided into Essex Co. and Richmond Co. in 1692 but
records of Old Rap. Co.are kept at Essex.Co.
For those of you who do not know, a WPA project in the 1930s was to
index deeds, wills, court orders, etc. in Old Rap. Co. and Exxex Co. and these
wonderful indexes (all handwritten) are in Books A & B. Referring to these
books gave me no FRox, Richardson, Alice Russell or Sam'l Bayly on this date and
there is quite a gap in records from 1676 to 1680- the clerk told me that C)B
for this period is missing.
Alice (Billington) Russell m. 1) Dr. John Russell on 11 Sept 1673
(North Farnham Parish /Register, page 15).
Could I have gotten the above info from some other source? Does anyone
have any ideas. Thanks, William M. McCarty
