If you have information on these early residents of Orange County, I would
appreciate your help. Other his brother-in-laws, John Kelly and Finley
McColester, there are only two men with whom I can connect Thomas Mylam by
court records: a Francis Williams and John Bramham.

24 MAR 1737/1738 ORANGE COUNTY, ORDER BOOK 1, page 285. "In the suit by
petition brought by David Williams, assignee for William Smith, against
Thomas Mylam & Francis Williams for four hundred pounds of tobacco due by
bills. The Defendants being called and failing to appear, the plaintive
produced their bills with the assignments.....Therefore Judgement is granted
the plaintives against ye said Defendants for the four hundred pounds of
tobacco and Costs."

In the mid - late 1740s, John Bramham and Thomas Mylam shared a Warrant for
400+ acres on the North side of Double Top Mountain. As you know the first
courthouse of Orange County was built on 20 acres of Bramham's land South of
the Rapidan River. Thus the property on Double Top was 25+ miles from
Bramham main property South of the Rapidan River.

25 NOV 1736 ORANGE COUNTY; ORDER BOOK 1, 124 - 25. "Court agreed with John
Bramham that he lease 20 acres of land to this county to build a
Courthouse.....for 120 pounds of tobacco per annum.....the plot should
include a convenient spring to Cedar Island Ford..."

Another point, Thomas Mylam does NOT appear on any of the extant Orange
County Tithable Lists from 1735 until Culpeper County was formed in 1749.

Questions: 1) Since Mylam doesn't appear on any Tithable List, is it
reasonable to assume that from 1737 through 1749 he worked for someone else
i.e. perhaps as an indentured servant early on then as a hired hand or
Overseer?
2) Since the Double Top land was so far from Bramham's property south of the
Rapidan River, does it make since to assume that Mylam might have been his
Overseer for the land on Double Top? Any thought on why Bramham had land so
far from his primary property?
3) Are you familiar with Francis Williams? Like John Bramham, Williams often
appears in court orders as a juryman, as a witness to Deeds and Wills. Any
thoughts on why Mylam would be suited along with Francis Williams in the 24
March 1737/38 record? Mylam does not ever appear again in Orange County
court orders. Not for debts, not on juries, not as a witness.

I appreciate any thoughts which you might have.
