There is another possibility. Ms. Nel, that you should investigate through a search of the bounty land documents of the day, and particularly the courts' minutes/orders for the span of years 1778-1790.  

It well may be that the whole of the activities that you have uncovered were simply actions/orders of the court to determine ownership of land rights that had been earned and had ripened into a patent years before by a then deceased minor.  Paul
