The collection Management Services Division of the Library of Virginia
is seeking an experienced State Records Archivist. This position will be
responsible for analyzing, describing, cataloging, and preserving
archival state records collections in order to promote universal patron
access to the documentary heritage of the Commonwealth and its citizens.
Daily responsibilities include ensuring the proper identification,
arrangement, description, and conservation of permanent state government
records using acceptable professional standards to ensure the effective
use of these records by the patrons of The Library of Virginia.

The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in U.S. History,
Library Science, or related field and formal training in archives
administration preferred.  Experience as an archivist at an entry level
preferred.  Considerable knowledge of archival standards, theory, and
practice, knowledge of archival automation [EAD] and online cataloging
using MARC format, knowledge of state government records, knowledge of
Virginia legal processes and state and local history, as well as a
working knowledge of standard archival conservation guidelines and the
ability to analyze, arrange, and describe collections accurately.  Must
be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and work as
an effective member of a team.  Must pass a security background check.

Local Records Archivist

The Collection Management Services Division of the Library of Virginia
is seeking an experienced Local Records Archivist.  This position will
be responsible for collecting, analyzing, describing, cataloging, and
preserving archival and manuscript collections in order to promote
universal patron access to the documentary heritage of the Commonwealth
and its citizens.  Daily responsibilities include ensuring the proper
identification, arrangement, description, and conservation of moderately
complex and complex chancery and miscellaneous records comprising the
records of Virginia's Circuit Courts using acceptable professional
standards and materials to ensure effective use of local records
collections by the patrons of the Library of Virginia and various
government entities.

The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in U.S. History,
Library Science, or related field and formal training in archives
administration preferred.  Experience as an archivist at an entry level
preferred.  Considerable knowledge of archival standards, theory, and
practice, in addition to Virginia state and local history and legal
processes. Working knowledge of standard archival conservation
guidelines and the ability to analyze, arrange, and describe collections
accurately.  Demonstrated experience in examining chancery papers,
analyzing information therein, and indexing pertinent data.  Must be
able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to work as
an effective member of a team.  Must pass a security background check..
