"Genealogy Without Documentation is Mythology"

Errors on Ancestry depend on what you're looking at, and it is always
worthwhile to read the description regarding the particular database you are
accessing. Many of these files are not coming from what would be considered
primary sources. In some cases, Ancestry will tell you that sources for
particular files are uncertain. And even with primary sources, you are still
subject to transcriber errors.

But the actual census images are legit. It is only the indexing system which
must be created by transcribers that is the problem. If you are searching
for Lamar Hatcher, you won't find him because the transcriber read it as
Leman and Leman is the name entered into the index. Using a given name in
your search criteria is almost a waste of time.
