Am searching for any & all information on Company C of the 57th Virginia
Infantry, CSA. This unit, from Franklin County, VA was nicknamed the
"Franklin Fire Eaters."

According to a written history of the 57th found online, "The 57th Virginia
Infantry was organized on September 25, 1861 when five companies were added
to the five extant companies of Major Elisha Keen's battalion."

The only information re: Company C I have been able to find came courtesy of
the same online site. It reads as follows:

"Company C - Franklin Fire Eaters -from Franklin County. This company was
enlisted on June 21, 1861 as part of Keen's Battalion."

Can anyone tell me more about Company C of the 57th VA Infantry, CSA? How did
they get the moniker "Franklin Fire Eaters?"

Thank you in advance for any information or guidance. I look forward to
reading your E-mails.

Sincerely,

Mike Peters
