I was, regretfully, around and even participated in a minor way in 
the previous Jefferson/Hemming flap. I'd not like to see a repeat of 
it. It produced a lot of heated language and not much understanding.

But I don't think anyone ever suggested that Sally Hemming was a 
descendent of Thomas Jefferson.

I agree that Jefferson was "a fine and brilliant President" and even 
feel some pride to have some distant family connection to him 
(nothing that would get me into the Monticello Association --- the 
Hemming family will get in before I do). My feelings about Mr. 
Jefferson would not be damaged if the Hemming connection turns out to 
be factual. Let facts, whatever they may be, be put forward, not 
indignation from either side.
