VIRGINIA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
SET TO VISIT RELIC
The Virginia Genealogical Society's fall conference will take place in Prince William County. On Friday, September 30, co-sponsors VGS and the Mount Vernon Genealogical Society invite attendees to visit RELIC, 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., for "Research at the Library." Library staff will be available to answer questions concerning the Library's collections and their use. Experienced researchers will be available to answer questions, provide individual assistance to beginners, and to offer strategies for difficult genealogical problems.
On Saturday, October 1, a series of talks on "Genealogy Strategies: The Basics and More" will be given, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2500 Neabsco Common Place, Woodbridge, VA 22191, with speakers Sharon Hodges, Chuck Mills, and Don Wilson. UNDERSTANDING FOUR CIVIL WAR CAMPAIGNS
THROUGH MAPS
Presented by Bradley Gottfried
Join Civil War historian and author Bradley Gottfried as he "walks" you through the Hallowed Ground of the Wilderness Campaign, First Bull Run and the Bristoe and Mine Run Campaigns using detailed and revealing maps from his books. Dr. Gottfried is current president of Southern Maryland College and a board member of the Central Virginia Battlefield Trust. The author of eleven books, his latest, The Maps of the Wilderness: An Atlas of the Wilderness Campaign, May 2-7, 1864, continues his efforts to study and illustrate the major campaigns of the Civil War's Eastern Theater. Dr. Gottfried will offer copies of his books for sale after his presentation.

AN INTRODUCTION TO DNA TESTING FOR GENEALOGY

Have you ever wondered where your ancestors came from? Would you like to find more cousins to help with your genealogy research and wonder how DNA testing can help? Shannon Combs-Bennett is a professional genealogist with a degree in genetics. She will explain the various DNA tests available, who should take them, and how to use results with your paper genealogy.
