Erik,

I agree with your sentiments about Ancestry.com and refuse to use them
due to their very questionable business practices.

BUT... Your public comments toward Beverly when she supported Ancestry
were very rude and uncalled for.

Unfortunately some of us are not able to "get off our duff and embrace
some scholarship" for various reasons. I personally am mostly homebound
due to medical handicaps. I am unable to easily go out and do research,
especially if it means going out of our small town with no resources.
Does this mean I should simply give up interest on learning about my
ancestry?

There are others on the list with similar or worse problems. Some are
not even able to get out of their beds and must depend on the research
of others, and the internet, for all of their research. For you to
publicly tell Beverly to "get off your duff and embrace some
scholarship; you might learn something" was extraordinarily rude. I've
been on the internet for over 10 years and am on over 100 genealogy
list, and as ugly as some of the things I have seen written have been
that was one of the ugliest and most immature comments I have seen made
to anyone, especially on this list which usually seems to have the
highest caliber users of any of them.

I normally would never make a reply like this in a public forum, I would
do it privately as it normally should be done. However, since you went
to the trouble to bypass the Reply-to: on the list to make sure your
rude belittling comments to Beverly were made public for all to see, you
only deserve that I do the same for you.
