Hi to the list:

I have been reseaching the records in the Fluvanna County Clerk's Office...
I was asked to obtain a copy of a will for Lucy Wood who died ca 1826, which was located in Will book 3, page 180 (old system). To my surprise, there was no will seen, but the inventory of her estate was on that page.

Checking the Index to Wills - I found only an entry for the inventory which was as found.

Checking the Index to Heirs - Found no Wood heirs with a testator Lucy Wood.

Next, I reviewed the individual will books (number 2 - 5) which covered years before and after this time;, those individual books each contain their own indexes, but nothing for Lucy Woods.

Next, I reviewed the old Court Order books:
1820 - 1825
here I found an entry for Dec 1826 which mentioned the appallent Lucy Wood was dead..

1825 - 1825
here was found this entry for Mar 1826
"...Court appoints Valentine W. Southall curator of the estate of Lucy Wood during the contest about the will of said Lucy Wood; whereupon said Valentine Southall made oath according...."

I specifically did not find the type entry that was common for that time in the court orders saying that the will of xxxxxx was presented to the court and proven to be the will of xxxxxx by three witnesses...
I did not review every page...only the index of the individual court orders books, which indexes only the surname in most cases...

My question:

Has anyone seen a will for Lucy Wood, widow of Valentine Wood?

Does anyone have any suggestions? Ever run into a situation like this?

Could it be possible the court was still somehow probating her husband's will, rather than her own?

Help, please

Alice in Fluvanna
