Thank you Elizabeth for asking those key questions. How I wish that I could
tie down a source! The only place the date is listed is in an unsourced
family history book written about 75 years ago. The year is engraved on his
tombstone installed by the D.A.R. in 1941 on the 100th anniversary of his
death. I have travelled and researched relentlessly in Co Tyrone and Ulster
Province, (Northern) Ireland where his birth was also listed. There are no
records to be found across the pond. I have his rejected Revolutionary War
papers, no date listed. I have been working on this for the past 13 years.
I will pursue this with renewed vigor, due to your questions. And, I am
open to any additional feedback.

Again, Cynthia

appreciate any feed back or comments.

Cynthia,

Can we tie down, more precisely, that phrase "birthdate is listed"? (All
sources are not created equal.) What record cites this date as the birth
date? Is it an official document created at the time? Is it something a
descendant wrote generations later? Is it in a database you found somewhere?

If the latter, have you backtracked that database entry to the source from
which it was derived and--if so--was that source an original record created
by someone with firsthand knowledge, or does it represent a secondhand
assertion?

The cause of your problem (or its solution) can't be determined until we
define the nature of the source in which you found the date.

Elizabeth
