Hi, I firmly believe that you will need to dig a tad deeper in the records
of those counties of MD that border VA, and vice versa, especially on or
rather near Chesapeake Bay. Unless he had some money, he migrated to the
most likely employment market. Why not tell us his name ?

Try:
http://www.jamestown.abc-clio.com/ReferenceDisplay.aspx?entryid=1003227

Take a look at p. 21 in
http://books.google.com/books?id=P7OuMkzGKw0C&pg=PA363&lpg=PA363&dq=va+fishm
ongers+colony&source=web&ots=rmvnTTaLTa&sig=rHIs1B_T8SXIek1ynV1bFwpYkdY

For a general view of emigrants to N VA, see
http://books.google.com/books?id=tZOEY5IPUSYC&pg=PA19&dq=va+fishmongers+colo
nial&sig=Ck3-XdCWmLkpVDBr__4crUsvS2U#PPA19,M1

Note whether or not the area of MD in which you found him was close by the
VA colony to where you think he emigrated. Then too, since fishmongers were
more marketers and wholesalers than were they fishermen, he may well have
apprenticed with any of the mongers of the NE VA/SE MD Tidewater counties.

Finally, notice that the longest period he could have been lost to the
records (1684 - 1693) was nine years, it would not be atall remarkable if he
had not yet finished his apprenticeship until a few months or even a few
years. He may well have remained in the charge of he who sponsored him by
4, 5, or even 6 years after he emigrated. Moreover, even after serving his
term he may have stayed on with his "master" until he could find a location
to which he wanted to migrate. Many "servants" did so.

Interesting question :-) Keep us posted.
