The next program in the Virginia Heritage Resource Center's Mining the
Treasure House lecture series will be held at noon on Tuesday, 16
January 2007 in the conference rooms adjacent to the lobby of the
Library of Virginia at 800 East Broad Street in downtown Richmond. The
Richmond Religious History Consortium will present the first in a series
of programs on the city's unique role in the story of American religious
liberty, entitled Rarities of Religious Freedom: Documents from the
Library of Virginia. The Virginia Statute for Religious Liberty was
passed into law in Richmond in January 1786. The first program,
featuring State Archivist Conley Edwards and Library of Virginia
historian Brent Tarter, will set the historical context for
commemorating religious liberty in connection with the Jamestown 2007
dedication of January as religious history month. Original archival
material from the 1770s and 1780s will be on display to illustrate the
roles that different Virginians played in passing the Statute for
Religious Liberty, one of the most important documents in all of
American religious history.

There is free underground parking for Library patrons but please note
