Females can have mtDNA tested through their maternal line and can also have
autosomal DNA done.

Linda,

I've been seriously thinking about having a DNA test but I thought it was
only for males.

I take it from this that females are being tested for their roots also.

Thanks for you information,

Doris F.

You'll get the best bang for you buck with 23andMe. I originally tested in
2005 with FTDNA and then with AncestryByDNA for admixture testing. With
23and me, you'll get all of that for a fraction of what I paid. I finally
tested with 23andme last April.

My suggestion to anyone who is thinking of testing is too first understand
the results you will get from each test and or each testing company. Too
many look at testing as a means to leap over any real research whether it be
genealogical or DNA. And once you have tested, the real research begins.
Like any other science changes are happening on a regular basis.

The show made you feel proud to be a Virginian! Does anyone have
information on a reliable source for the genetic DNA testing? I would
appreciate any information or research articles.
