Hi Janet,

Yes, today this land would be in Powhatan as of 1777. In the beginning, Sam's land would have been in Henrico/Goochland [line straddling]. By the time he wrote his will, it was in Chesterfield/Cumberland.

Actually, no, I've seen only a few trespass cases and few that were anything more than a few brief lines in the books. But I sure agree about the high level of court activity back then. It seems if you weren't in court each and every month, you weren't having any fun at all.

In this case, since the defendent was never found over an 8 month period, I suspect it wasn't settled so much as just abandoned.
