THANKS for your input, Birgitte !
I found the year on the groom's application for a Revolutionary War pension, and that same document indicated that the bride was "of Culpeper County." My Dodsons moved from the Fauquier - Prince William area to Halifax County in the mid-1760s. It would seem that the groom must have returned to northern Virginia to marry.
You are right, I need to check surrounding counties, as well.

                 THANK YOU !

Assume you have talked to the library in Culpeper as well as checked with the Library of Virginia? If no joy, suggest you try searching surrounding counties for clues. Do you know for sure that the marriage took place in Culpeper in that year? If so, how did you find that? If not, you might try checking surrounding counties. I have found families in Fauquier who had family in Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties. Is the surname you're researching Dodson? There are lots of Dodsons here in Fauquier Co., where I live. You're welcome to contact me off-list.

Best of luck,

Birgitte Tessier

The familysearch wili lists some resources:

Scroll down to Vital Records at the bottom of the page.
