For those interested in new book announcements, the following publication is now available: "Richmond County, Virginia Marriage Records, 1854-1890 Annotated," by Wesley E. Pippenger. The work is a compilation of data found in 1,702 marriage records of Richmond County, Virginia, for the years 1854 through 1890. The data are derived from multiple sources, including marriage licenses or applications, minister returns of marriage, consents by guardian or parent, or entries in either of two bound marriage registers for the period, and supplemented with family Bible records, cemetery records, military records, and other publications. In many instances the place of marriage of the parents of the bride and groom is noted, as well as place of burial for any of the parties. C.S.A. soldiers are identified and separately indexed. The compiler has inserted the information from outside sources in over 1,400 footnotes, including references to the well-respected work of the late George Harrison Sanford King, in his "Marriages of Richmond County, Virginia, 1668-1853," which contains much additional data in appendices, addenda and corrigenda. The index contains over 12,000 entries.
