Moody Miles, who does excellent work and documentation on the Miles Files,
monitors the VA-Roots list by Digest but is having problems posting to the
list.

In case he doesn't get through, his comments on the conversation are:

"I'm monitoring this VA-ROOTS thing by getting the daily digest, but I'm not
sure how to actually respond. I don't see a Roger Bell in any of the Eastern
Shore book indexes.

"There were Quakers on Virginia's Eastern Shore very early and Col.
Scarburgh and others ran them out, most of them moving up to Somerset Co, MD
by the 1660s. Can I assume that Puritans and Quakers are separate in the
context of the Emails on VA-Roots?"

My response: Puritans and Quakers were considered different sects or
denominations of Christianity at that time. In that regard, I think they
are separate. However, the evidence "suggests" that Col. Scarburgh
(Scarborough) considered adherents to both sects as heretics.

There is a e-list specifically dedicated to research on the Eastern Shore:
Sign up for it at: http://ghotes.org/mailman/listinfo/ghote-mail_ghotes.org

Ghotes stands for genealogy and history on the eastern shore.

As far as I can tell, there was no Roger Bell there in the 1600s according
to the Miles Files 11.0 which are fairly, but not completely, accurate. In
this latest version, there are 60,000 names of people on the Eastern Shore
(both VA and MD). There are several Bells in the index. As I haven't
researched the Bell family or come in contact with it in my research of the
Scarboroughs, it would be best to check them out at:
http://espl-genealogy.org/MilesFiles/index.htm. There is a lot of
documented information there on the residents of the Eastern Shore.
