I have an ancestor who is listed in the 1783 tax rolls in Fauquier--alone. He's in the under 21 column--and based on other documentation, he probably was about 19.

Subject: [VA-ROOTS] Age of Tithable Living Independently

I have received a lot of responses to this question and appreciate it.
However, some may have missed my actual question or I did not word it
appropriately, I was asking about the age of independant tithables, meaning
an individual listed living alone and not with family. I have since been told that
the age for an independant tithable was 21.
