> Dear Library and List,
> Today at the LDS Family History Center, Santa Monica, I stumbled
> across a great find: a book listing patriots who made Revolutionary
> Public Claims for non-military service in the Revolutionary War. Lo
> and behold, my grX4 grandfather is listed! When Dr. Earl Swem was
> assistant librarian at the Virginia State Library, he assembled and made
> available to researchers these Public Claims as well as Personal and
> Land Tax Books, beginning 1782, for every county in Virginia.
>
> The book further states these Indexes of Revolutionary Public Claims
> are valuable because they are available in no other place than the
> manuscripts in the archives of the Virginia State Library. I believe
> Dr. Swem died around 1965. Would these holdings now be in the
> Library of Virginia? I'd sure like to order a copy of the original
> document but find no website information whatsoever.
> Thank you, anyone with an answer!
