Clay, Thanks for posting this citation. It doesn't do much good for me to remember I read it, but not remember where!  I'd forgotten the part about succession as the head of the house. This is actually the law Henry VIII's  daughter, Mary, mentioned before she married her deceased husband's brother. [both husbands also being her cousins]

Deut. chapter 25 ver 5 thru 10 is the bibical requirement for a man to marry a sister-in-law if her husband dies without a son. The first son of this marriage was considered the dead brother's child and succeeds in the name of the brother who was dead.
