 Paul, I can sympathize about the plagerists.  I have literally spent
thousands of hours and thousands of dollars creating my New River Notes website, and
there are snippets here and there all over the place.  I have also published
several books, as part of the Virginia Regimental History Series.  One fellow
scanned one of them and put the whole thing online, without permission.  I sent
him a bill for the number of hits on the counter (then about 8000 hits),
multiplied by $25 (the price of the book)  My royalty is 10%, so in essence this
fellow, who did no original work effectively (potentially) deprived me of
$20,000 in royalties.  I don't mind giving things away, I have never charged anyone
a cent for access to my website.  Everyone who has asked permission to
publish, quote, etc. has been given permission to use what ever material they
desired.  But I would like it to be my decision what to sell and what to give away.
Is that so wrong?

 I also get ticked at people who link to specific pages on my web site, and
frame it so that it appears to be their own work.  Some of the USGenweb folks
are pretty bad at doing that.

 I am so annoyed that I am considering taking down my web site.  Many other
good web sites have gone the way of the dodo, I suspect many for similar
reasons.
