While this is not a direct answer to you message please let me share with
you and the list what has worked for me in the past.

As the early settlers of Culpeper County, I have found names and
relationship in various legal documents.  I did as much research on those
slave relationships as I could.  I did not wish to offend anyone and did not
know how welcome my research would be; I then turned my information and
copies of the documents to the pastor of the local Black church.  How these
documents were received by descendents or members of the church, I known
not.
