Life is like a foreign country, they do some things differently there.  

Our ancestors got along just fine without our judgments or ideas of
proprietary. Let them rest in their graves and let us keep our ideas of good
and bad to ourselves always. 

Further, contraceptives were at best inadequate and the biological urges
have not changed since the earliest record of mankind.
