If an individual owned land in LunenburgCo but resided in another county, would his name appear on the Lunenburg Tithe lists in the 1740-50s time frame? Or was it only residents of the county who appeared on these lists?

It seems to me I read somewhere that landowners at one time paid taxes on ALL their property, regardless of location, to the county in which they resided but that this system was finally scrapped since it was too easy to cheat the taxpayer. IF this is correct, what years are we talking and when was it scrapped?

Is there anyone who knows if there was an age exemption (1740-50s) for LunenburgCo and if so, what was that age? I understand that this age was county controlled and could be different for each county.

This list has been too quiet! Now's your chance to make some noise :-)

Thanks!
Nel
