I apologize to this list for my mistake. I shouldn't do this at
midnight if that can be an excuse.
In my query I put Lynchburg instead of what it should have. Petersburg
is the city that had D.W. Carter listed in the 1860 census in the west
ward.. I can't find him in the 1870 census. He was age 24 and
superintendent of a tobacco factory He is listed with a Louisa age 26
and a boy James F. Gates, age 10. He was a son of Wilson Carter of
Prince Edward County. One other son of Wilson's, a John, died in the
Confederate War. Could D(octor) W. Carter have died as a result of the
War? Can anybody find him or Louisa his wife or James F. Gates in a
later census?
I appreciate each response.
