Thank you Katie and Roger for your help.  I did contact the Archivist for the Diocese of Richmond and he responded promptly with the names of the three Catholic churches that were active in the 1845 -1865 time frame.  The Library of Virginia has microfilm of the records of two of the parishes and I have e-mailed the third.
I plan to go to Richmond latter this month to view the microfilm and any other records I can find.
