You might make a start in Northampton County - among the names in my
database of Black refugees of the War of 1812 there are two sets of related
name-variants in that country:
Benjamin and Violet Hare/Eir, from the farm of John H Winder;
various Air, from the farm of J & W Eyre;
and there was also a further group of refugees named Ayres, origins unknown.

: Could anyone tell me if they have an index, or if one was made to cover
the
: state of Virginia? I am trying to see where my family the
: Airs/Ayres/Ayers/Ayrs may be in the state of Virginia around the 1800 and
: before. I may be looking for a needle in a haystack, but I was trying to
: rule out a few counties and not have to look in every county census.
