Margie, as a registrar for Col Dames, may I make a suggestion. I always tell
prospective members, DO NOT try and prove a hard or new person to join the
organization. Take the easiest line you have and join. THEN you can spend
all the time you wish working on those hard lines. I have had this happen
over and over! Women just want to join on "mama's line" or how special it
will be for me to prove the line "grandma" has worked on so long. DO NOT DO
IT. Join on an easy one for you to prove.
The person you prove must have been born prior to 1680 to be of legal age by
1701 if you mean Col Dames XVIIC membership.
I saw you had Ludwell lineage in the subject line and that caught my eye as
I have just proven two Ludwell men for Colonial Dames that had never been
proven before but the information was there. Just no one connected or they
all want to do easy line for supplementals. Those they can "hook" onto
someone else work. I have set out to prove the unproven.

I am Margie Puckett Barton and I am trying to prove lineage to became a
member of the Colonial Dames. I am missing one connection and I am in hopes
you might be able to direct me on where to find the is information.
I have researching the PUCKETT for close to 30 years I can prove my line
from Henry Puckett to Richard Puckett, Jr born according to Bristol Parish
Vestry Records, born about 1721. Richard's father was Richard Puckett Sr,
son of William Puckett son of John Puckett son of Henry Puckett.
Richard Puckett, Jr was on orphan, his guardian was John Puckett of
Chesterfield Co, VA, brother to Richard Puckett, Sr. According to books (I
can not prove) Richard Jr had two sons; James Puckett and Thomas Hobby
Puckett. I can prove from James Puckett down to me, this James Puckett was
suppose to have married Martha Dabney from Cane Creek Laurens County South
Carolina (can not prove).
If you have ANY suggestions I would welcome them. I have copies of most
anything you can ask for, but nothing connection James Puckett to his father
Richard Puckett, Jr.

Ludwell of 'Greenspring' and 'Rich Neck', James City County, and died April
4, 1731 (Ludwell Bible). Philip Ludwell, second of the name in Virginia,
was born Feb. 4, 1672, and died Jan. 11, 1726-27. He was Speaker of the
House of Burgesses 1695, appointed to the Council in 1702, and Auditor
General 1711-16. Hannah (Harrison) Ludwell was, through her daughter, Mrs.
Hannah Lee, grandmother of Richard Henry, Francis Lightfoot, Arthur, and
William Lee, and through another daughter, Mrs. Lucy Grymes, ancestress of
Generals Henry and Robert E. Lee. Mrs. Ludwell's tomb in the churchyard at
Jamestown bears the following epitaph:
"'Under this Stone lies interred The Body of Mrs. Hannah Ludwell, relict of
The Hon'ble Col. Philip Ludwell Esqr., By whom she has left one son and two
daughters. After a most exemplary Life spent in Cheerful innocence and
Constant Exercise of Piety, Charity and Hospitality, she Patiently
Submitted to Death on the 4th day of April 1731, in the 52d year of her
age.'"

Vol. 19, No. 3. (Jan 1911), pp. 199-214. P. 213: "Issue of Philip Ludwell
and Hannah Harrison three daughters and two sons, two of whom died in
infancy: (1) Lucy, born at Rich Neck in Bruton parish in James City County,
November 2, 1698, married Col. John Grymes of Brandon on the Rappahannock
River in Virginia, and died November 2, 1748; (2) Hannah, born at Rich
Neck, Dec. 5, 1701, and died at Stratford on Potomac, January 25, 1749. She
married Thomas Lee, President of the council, and had issue the five
prominent Lee brothers: Richard Henry Lee, the orator, and father of the
resolution for American independence; Dr. Arthur Lee, the celebrated writer
and diplomat; William Lee, diplomat; Francis Lightfoot Lee, signer of the
Declaration of Independence; and Thomas Ludwell Lee, member of Congress.
(3) Sarah, born at Rich Neck, July 29, 1704; died January 6, 1704-5; (4)
Philip, born at Greenspring, January 19, 1706, died March 9, 1706. 'He was
a very pretty boy like his mother'; (5) Philip, born at Greenspring on the
night of December 28 and 29, 1716, about 12 of the clock."
