    Brent - I have a semi-unrelated question for you.

Back in the 1970s I worked at the BVS in Richmond when they were moving to put all their certificates on computer. At that time we still pulled birth, death, marriage and divorce records (and in one section, Adoption records) first by looking over the Index books in the Search Room, then going into the books section of the vault, pulling the books of bound certificates off the shelf and having them photocopied for our customers (mail or waiting room). These records and index books dated from 1856-1896, 1912-that year of 1972.

What became of those bound certificates and index books, would you know? I have hestitated to contact BVS because of a number of reasons, mostly from reading experiences here on the List. Somewhere in the emails I thought I read that the old certs were inthe hands of LVA. If that is true, how can a search be done of the index books by us regular folks? Is it InterLibrary loan of reels/microfische, or inhouse at LVA, or do they still reside with the Bureau of Vital Records?
