Sorry to lose someone who has been an expert at his job.

At the end of August 2010 I cease being the moderator of record for
Va-Roots and turn that responsibility over to my colleague Gregg
Kimball. I shall continue to be a subscriber and will continue to take
part in the discussions on this list, of which I was an original
subscriber.

Va-Roots was the first electronic discussion group for Virginia
genealogy, so far as I know. John Kneebone, Elizabeth Roderick, and the
late Daphne Gentry, all then of the Library of Virginia, created
Va-Roots in July 1995, and I took part in hosting the list with them
until Daphne Gentry retired in August 1999. From then until January 2009
my colleague and friend Rose Schooff shared moderation of the list with
me and managed all of the technical details, in which she was succeeded
by the library's Doc Frank. I thank all of them.
